The Hinman Charity’s mission is to preserve the culture and heritage of Buddhism through community development and cultural preservation projects that reflect the spirit of the Buddha’s teachings. Our goal is to identify sustainable ways to enhance human dignity through compassionate action, restoration of historical sites, and participatory community-based development grants. The Charity supports programs where the creative application of grant funds can help to transform lives.

Inspired by William Hinman’s great joy and gusto for life, love of nature, generosity, creative mind and commitment to helping people, the Foundation strives to both support the practice and study of Buddhism and to apply Buddhist principles in its efforts to relieve human suffering.

The majority of the Charity's programs have been focused in South and Southeast Asia, including in Tibet, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Mongolia and Burma (Myanmar).
